Description
Artifacts of the Past
Peer into the clutter and you can see,
the artifacts of the past covered in dust.
These are the memories that she used to own.
I knew her, once, in another life.
A jar of spice, jewelry cabinet,
and old candles where no smoke lingers.
A letter to herself. It’s a reminder,
to have strength for a future
that she never lived.
I know her writing, I know her words.
Her letters and notes cling to this house.
I can feel her, but she is gone now.
I've stared at that empty dresser so many times.
I know what's left behind, but all I keep staring at...
is the animal skull, so small and fragile.
Why am I still here?
I do not belong here.
But I am.
Among the artifacts of the past.
This is not conceptual.
This is real.
This was real.
My reality.
